A new national survey from the Harvard CAPS/Harris Poll indicates that a majority of registered voters support President Donald Trump’s handling of escalating tensions with Iran, with respondents expressing approval of both military and diplomatic actions.

The poll, conducted April 23–26 among 2,745 registered voters, found that 74% believe the United States is currently prevailing in its conflict with Iran, while 54% said the U.S. holds the advantage in ongoing negotiations.

Support for military action was also reflected in the results. According to the survey, 52% of respondents back U.S. airstrikes targeting Iran, and 54% said those strikes were justified. The findings suggest that more than half of voters approve of direct military engagement amid continued hostilities.

The survey also measured public opinion on diplomatic decisions made by the administration. A total of 78% of voters said Trump was correct to agree to a temporary ceasefire, while 57% supported the decision to impose a naval blockade on vessels heading toward Iran.

Voters indicated support for maintaining pressure if Iran continues pursuing nuclear capabilities. Sixty-three percent said the United States should sustain its blockade under those conditions, and 74% agreed that preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon is in the country’s national interest.

The poll found that these views extend across political affiliations, reflecting agreement among respondents on the importance of limiting Iran’s nuclear program.

In addition, respondents supported specific conditions tied to any future agreement with Iran. Seventy-nine percent said Iran should cease support for proxy groups such as Hezbollah and Hamas, while 78% said the country should halt executions of protesters. Overall, 66% said the administration should insist on meeting all major conditions during negotiations.

On international coordination, 66% of voters backed the formation of a multinational naval force to ensure the free flow of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global energy supplies.

The results reflect a public sentiment favoring a combination of military preparedness, economic pressure and structured diplomacy as the United States continues to navigate tensions with Iran.
