Supporters of First Lady Melania Trump are organizing a nationwide grassroots boycott targeting advertisers of ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! following explosive remarks made by host Jimmy Kimmel about President Donald Trump.
The controversy has intensified amid reports that parent company The Walt Disney Company may be weighing the future of the long-running late-night program.
The backlash erupted after Kimmel referred to the First Lady as an “expectant widow” during a monologue — comments that critics say crossed a line, particularly given the serious security threats facing President Trump.
Just days after the remark, a gunman allegedly attempted to assassinate the president during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, further inflaming tensions and fueling outrage among Trump supporters.
In response, Melania Trump issued a strongly worded statement on X (formerly Twitter), condemning what she described as “hateful and violent rhetoric” designed to deepen political division in the country. She argued that Kimmel’s comments were not comedy but rather corrosive language contributing to America’s growing political hostility.
“His monologue about my family isn’t comedy — his words are corrosive and deepen the political sickness within America,” the First Lady wrote. She went on to question why ABC continues to provide Kimmel with a platform, accusing the network of shielding him from accountability.
The online response was swift. Trump supporters began circulating lists of companies advertising on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and urging consumers to withhold their business.
Among the advertisers mentioned in viral posts were Allstate, McDonald’s, and Starbucks. Social media users declared they would no longer purchase products from brands sponsoring the program, calling on corporations to reconsider their association with the show.
Meanwhile, reports from The Sun suggested that ABC affiliates had been instructed to pull promotional clips for Kimmel’s show from their broadcast lineups, sparking speculation that Disney could be preparing to make a decisive move. An unnamed insider claimed that the possibility of cancelation appeared “imminent,” especially given the mounting advertiser pressure and reputational risk.
However, conflicting reports from Page Six indicated that the network has no plans to suspend or fire Kimmel. According to its source, ABC executives are standing by the host and intend to continue business as usual, dismissing speculation of cancellation.

Kimmel himself addressed the controversy during a subsequent broadcast, brushing aside criticism and reiterating that his original remark was intended as a joke about the couple’s age difference rather than a literal reference to death. His decision to repeat and defend the joke further angered critics, who accused him of doubling down instead of offering an apology.
President Trump has publicly called for Kimmel’s firing, while White House Communications Director Steven Cheung harshly criticized the host for refusing to retract his comments.
The broader controversy unfolds against a backdrop of real and documented threats to the president’s life. In July 2024, Trump was struck in the ear by a bullet during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, after a gunman opened fire from a nearby rooftop. In September 2024, another suspect was apprehended near Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, allegedly waiting with a rifle positioned through a fence.
Most recently, federal prosecutors charged Cole Tomas Allen in connection with the White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting incident, marking the third officially documented assassination attempt on President Trump within less than two years.
Critics of Kimmel argue that jokes referencing violence or death — particularly involving public figures who have faced credible threats — contribute to a dangerous political climate. Supporters of the comedian, on the other hand, defend his remarks as protected satire within the tradition of late-night political comedy.
As advertiser pressure mounts and conflicting reports swirl about ABC’s internal deliberations, the network has yet to issue a formal public statement addressing the controversy.
For now, the future of Jimmy Kimmel Live! remains uncertain, while the political and cultural debate surrounding the episode continues to intensify nationwide.
