King Charles III has arrived in the United States for a high-profile state visit marked by diplomatic symbolism and tight security following a recent shooting incident in Washington, DC. The British monarch and Queen Camilla were welcomed at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland before being formally received at the White House by Donald Trump and Melania Trump.

Security across the العاصمة has been significantly increased after Saturday’s attack at an event attended by the president. The King is expected to open his address to Congress on Tuesday by expressing sympathy for those affected, while emphasizing unity during a period of global uncertainty.

In his speech, King Charles III will stress the enduring alliance between the United States and the United Kingdom, calling for “reconciliation and renewal” despite recent political disagreements. He is also expected to highlight the importance of defending democratic values, including support for NATO and Ukraine, and promoting tolerance, liberty, and equality.

The visit blends ceremony with diplomacy. The royal couple were greeted with flowers and national anthems before tea in the White House’s Green Room and a tour of a newly expanded beehive—an apparent nod to the King’s well-known passion for environmental causes.

At a garden party hosted by the British Embassy in Washington, attended by over 600 guests, prominent figures including Nancy Pelosi and Ted Cruz were present. The event showcased symbolic gestures, including British beef served tariff-free under a new trade agreement.

The King’s speech will be the first by a British monarch to Congress since Queen Elizabeth II in 1991, underscoring efforts to strengthen transatlantic ties.
