Britain’s King Charles III is scheduled to meet Zohran Mamdani in New York City next week as part of a broader visit to the United States, according to a report by Politico.
The two are expected to attend a wreath-laying ceremony at the National September 11 Memorial in downtown Manhattan on Wednesday. Former mayor Michael Bloomberg and other local officials are also expected to participate.
The meeting is one component of a three-day visit that will include a state dinner at the White House and an anticipated address by King Charles to a joint meeting of Congress.
The visit coincides with the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence, marking the separation of the 13 American colonies from British rule under King George III, an ancestor of the current monarch.
Officials say the trip is intended to highlight the longstanding political, military, and economic ties between the United Kingdom and the United States, despite recent tensions between the two governments.
Relations have faced strain in recent months following disagreements between President Donald Trump and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer over policy decisions, including the United Kingdom’s stance on military action involving Iran.
Asked whether the visit could help improve ties, Trump said in a BBC interview, “Absolutely, the answer is yes,” adding, “I know him well, I’ve known him for years. He’s a brave man, and he’s a great man.”
