Goa Cultural Association to be introduced at ICC’s Wednesday Fiesta in Doha

Doha, April 22: The newly formed Goa Cultural Association (GCA) will mark a significant milestone today as its Management Committee is set to be formally introduced at the Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) during the weekly “Wednesday Fiesta” programme.

The introduction ceremony will take place at 6:00 PM at the ICC’s Ashoka Hall, ahead of the regular Wednesday Fiesta scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM. Members of the GCA Management Committee have been requested to assemble at the venue by 5:45 PM in formal attire for the occasion.

The GCA, a newly constituted body under the ICC, has been established following directives from the Indian Embassy, replacing the former Goan Welfare Association (GWA) as the officially recognized Goan community organization affiliated with the ICC.

The association recently elected its first committee unopposed, with Roldão Fernandes taking charge as President. The leadership team is further supported by a five-member advisory board that includes prominent community members such as Filomeno Alves and Tina Fernandes.

In preparation for its launch, the ICC had conducted a membership drive for the GCA, inviting Indian citizens as well as PIO/OCI cardholders with Goan roots to be part of the new organization.

Describing the occasion as a landmark moment for the Goan community in Qatar, Mario D Costa expressed deep gratitude and commitment. “Tomorrow is a momentous day for the Goan community and all of you who have worked hard to get us to this point. I do not have the words to express how privileged and duty-bound I feel to have the opportunity to work for the Goan community,” he said, adding that the sense of dedication is shared among all members.

The formal introduction of the GCA at a prominent ICC platform is expected to usher in a new chapter for the Goan diaspora in Doha, strengthening cultural ties and community engagement under a unified banner.
