PORT JERVIS – Port Jervis Police Department requested the assistance from that city’s fire department on Friday to search an area of the Delaware River for an item of interest possibly connected to a menacing incident in the city’s Fourth Ward Thursday evening.

Police Sgt. Andrew Dillinger was among police on scene at the Mid-Delaware Bridge on April 19 as a police drone and fire department water operations crew searched below the bridge for the unspecified item just before 11 a.m. Friday.

While the item being sought was initially posted as a “weapon under the bridge” in a fire transmission request, Dillinger did not suggest it to be such.

He said it was something being sought as possibly connected to an arrest made of an individual during a menacing incident the evening before, near Church Street Park, Seward Avenue, and Hammond Streets.

It was not immediately known if any item was located.
