TOWN OF SOUTHEAST – State Police patrolling along I-684 in Southeast during the early morning were alerted of a stolen Nissan by the Westchester Real Time Crime Center.
Within minutes, a patrol spotted the suspect’s car but when a trooper activated his vehicle’s emergency lights and siren, the wanted car failed to comply and with the assistance of additional troopers and members of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department a pursuit was initiated onto Route 84 eastbound.
Troop K Public Information Officer Trooper Krystal Paolicelli said at 4:10 a.m. after a trooper deployed a stinger device near the New York-Connecticut state line, the suspect vehicle became disabled and its three occupants fled on foot.
The operator, Isaias Mendez, 24, of Wethersfield, Connecticut, and a passenger, Dwayne Graham, 24, of Broad Brook, Connecticut, were taken into custody. The third occupant, described as a Hispanic male in his 20s, escaped.
Mendez and Graham were transported to State Police Brewster for processing.
Mendez was charged with criminal possession of stolen property, unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration along with reckless driving.
Graham was charged with criminal possession of stolen property, obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest.
Both men were arraigned in Southeast Town Court and remanded to the Putnam County Jail without bail.
The top charges are felonies carrying a maximum seven-year state prison term if found guilty.
