MONTICELLO – Sullivan County Sheriff Michael Schiff has promoted Captain James Ginty to the position of jail administrator.
Ginty replaces long-time head of the jail division, Harold Smith, following his retirement days ago.
Undersheriff Eric Chaboty said Smith served in the sheriff’s office since 1983, working his way up the ranks.
“He did a phenomenal job, shaped policies in the sheriff’s office, helped with the budget. He was definitely the mainstay in the sheriff’s office,” he said.
Ginty has been a member of the sheriff’s office for 37 years.
