President Donald Trump urged lawmakers to support the renewal of a key U.S. surveillance authority, stating he is willing to accept personal tradeoffs to ensure its continuation.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he is working with House Speaker Mike Johnson, Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, and Intelligence Committee Chairman Rick Crawford to extend Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, a provision that allows for the collection of foreign intelligence information.

Trump called on Republicans to unify behind the measure, writing in his Truth Social post that lawmakers should “vote together on the test vote to bring a clean Bill to the floor” and support the proposal as it moves through the House Rules Committee.

The push comes amid internal disagreements among Republicans over the scope and oversight of the surveillance authority, as reported by Politico.

In his remarks, Trump also referenced former FBI Director James Comey, noting the use of surveillance authorities during past federal investigations. He then stated he would be willing to relinquish aspects of his own rights to maintain the program.

“I am willing to risk the giving up of my Rights and Privileges as a Citizen for our Great Military and Country! Our Military Patriots desperately need FISA 702, and it is one of the reasons we have had such tremendous SUCCESS on the battlefield,” Trump wrote.

Section 702 has been a central component of U.S. intelligence operations, particularly in monitoring foreign threats, but it has also faced scrutiny from lawmakers concerned about privacy and civil liberties.

The debate over its renewal highlights ongoing divisions in Congress over how to balance national security priorities with oversight and individual rights as the provision comes up for reauthorization.
