Snap Inc., the parent company of the social media platform Snapchat, announced Wednesday that it will reduce its global workforce by approximately 16 percent, impacting about 1,000 employees.
The company disclosed the layoffs in a regulatory filing, estimating the total cost of the cuts will range between $95 million and $130 million, primarily covering severance payments and related expenses.
In its filing, Snap said the reductions are intended to streamline operations and redirect resources toward key priorities. “The headcount reduction is designed to further streamline our operations and reallocate resources toward our highest-priority initiatives, leveraging increased operational efficiencies to accelerate our path toward net-income profitability,” the company stated.
According to its most recent annual report, Snap employed 5,261 full-time workers as of Dec. 31, 2025. Chief Executive Officer Evan Spiegel also informed employees that roughly 300 open positions would be eliminated and not filled.
The latest cuts follow several rounds of workforce reductions in recent years. In 2024, the company reduced its staff by approximately 10 percent, affecting about 530 employees. Earlier reductions included a 3 percent cut in late 2023 and a 20 percent workforce reduction in 2022.
Snapchat remains widely used, particularly among younger audiences, and reported an average of 474 million daily active users. Financial results released by the company show that its net loss narrowed to $460 million in 2025, while annual revenue increased to $5.9 billion.
The company said the restructuring is part of ongoing efforts to improve efficiency and move closer to sustained profitability.
