KINGSTON – The Ulster County Legislature is moving forward with plans to codify a 2019 executive order relating to the policy of dealing with ICE agents.

The health committee Tuesday approved the proposal, which would only deal with county employees and county property, said Legislature Chairman Peter Criswell.

“This isn’t anything that you are doing that is new or radical to our county. It has been in place for seven years, but it is taking it from something that could be changed fairly easily with the changing of the county executive to making it something that is a more solid policy through the legislative body,” he said.

Committee members also set a date for a public hearing on a local law that would establish a generally applicable public safety standard of identifiability during public-facing law enforcement activities in the county. That hearing will be held on Tuesday, May 19.
