ALBANY – Dozens of local elected officials from across the Hudson Valley rallied in Albany on Tuesday in support of Governor Hochul’s proposed reform of the state’s environmental quality review laws, the goal of which is to make it easier to build new housing, childcare centers, and critical infrastructure.
The session, organized by Kingston Mayor Steven Noble and Orange County Partnership President Conor Eckert, also included representatives from RUPCO and the Ulster County Regional Chamber of Commerce.
Mayor Noble said the proposed reforms would speed up the housing development process without risking the environment.
“All of these developments would be on pre-developed sites of things that have already been disturbed and areas that we in our communities want to focus housing development on, and to be able to cut four months out of a single project would be hugely beneficial to getting more people into homes here in the Hudson Valley,” he said.
“By streamlining the process while maintaining strong environmental standards, we can unlock smart growth, support job creation, and strengthen our regional economy,” said Eckert.
