Delivery worker tells president tax deduction on tips significantly improved her family’s financial situation.

President Donald Trump on Monday received a food delivery at the White House from a DoorDash driver who said she benefited financially from a federal tax policy eliminating taxes on certain tipped income.

The delivery was made by Sharon Simmons, who brought two bags of McDonald’s to the Oval Office and was greeted by the president outside. During the exchange, Trump handed Simmons a $100 tip and joked, “This doesn’t look staged, does it?” as he accepted the order, according to video footage shared online.

White House officials said Simmons earned approximately $11,000 in tips over the past year, income that qualified for tax deductions under provisions included in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. The legislation allows eligible workers to deduct up to $25,000 in tip income beginning this tax season.

Officials said the policy has helped Simmons offset financial strain as her husband undergoes cancer treatment, allowing her to cover household expenses, medical-related debt, and travel costs for her family.

The law also includes a provision permitting certain workers to deduct up to $12,500 in overtime income. During the interaction, Trump asked Simmons whether her reported $11,000 in tip deductions included overtime income, to which she replied that it did not.

“We should call it the ‘Great Big Beautiful Tax Cut Bill’ because it’s tremendous amounts of money,” Trump said, adding that the legislation also includes provisions related to Social Security and other tax relief measures.

Trump invited Simmons and her husband to attend a planned UFC event at the White House on June 14, part of a broader celebration marking the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States.

Additional footage and video clips from the visit show Simmons thanking the president for the policy.

“Well, I want to thank you for the no tax on tips. It has helped my family out immensely, and I definitely appreciate it,” Simmons said.
