The San Francisco residence of Sam Altman was targeted in a second incident within three days early Sunday, with police arresting two individuals after a reported shooting outside the property, according to the San Francisco Standard.
The San Francisco Police Department said the incident occurred around 1:40 a.m. when a Honda sedan stopped in front of the home. Surveillance footage and security personnel indicated that a passenger extended their arm out of the vehicle and appeared to fire a gun toward the residence. Security staff reported hearing a gunshot.
Police later detained Amanda Tom, 25, and Muhamad Tarik Hussein, 23, in connection with the incident. Both were booked on charges of negligent discharge. Authorities said the vehicle fled the scene but was later identified through license plate recognition, leading officers to locate and seize the car. A subsequent search of the suspects’ residence uncovered three firearms.
No injuries were reported in the shooting, and officials have not released additional details regarding a motive. Neither OpenAI nor police provided further comment following the arrests.
The incident follows an earlier attack on Friday involving 20-year-old Daniel Alejandro Moreno-Gama of Texas. According to police reports, Moreno-Gama approached the property from Chestnut Street at approximately 3:40 a.m. and allegedly threw a Molotov cocktail at a metal gate. Security personnel extinguished the flames, and the incident was captured on surveillance cameras.
Shortly after the firebombing, security staff at OpenAI’s Mission Bay headquarters encountered an individual matching the suspect’s description. The individual allegedly made threatening statements about the building before being taken into custody by responding officers.
Moreno-Gama was booked into San Francisco County Jail on multiple charges, including attempted murder, arson, and possession or manufacture of an incendiary device. No injuries were reported in that incident.
Authorities are continuing to investigate both cases and have not yet determined whether the two attacks are connected. The situation remains under review as law enforcement works to establish potential motives and any links between the suspects.
Further details are available in the San Francisco Standard report, as the investigation continues.
