Caucus meeting set for Friday as lawmakers weigh constitutional options amid renewed tensions over presidential authority.

House Democratic leadership has scheduled a caucus-wide briefing on the 25th Amendment to the United States Constitution for Friday, according to an internal communication circulated by Hakeem Jeffries.
The session is expected to be led by Jamie Raskin and will focus on constitutional mechanisms related to presidential removal, as lawmakers revisit options in response to recent developments involving Donald Trump.
In a “Dear Colleague” letter obtained by Fox News, Jeffries referenced the president’s recent warning that an entire “civilization will die” if Iran failed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. A ceasefire agreement was reached later that same day.
“Shockingly, Donald Trump threatened to escalate his war of choice in a profane Easter Sunday rant and to eradicate an entire civilization,” Jeffries wrote. “We will continue to unleash maximum pressure on Republicans to put patriotic duty over party loyalty and join Democrats in stopping the madness.”
The 25th Amendment allows for the removal of a sitting president if the vice president and a majority of the cabinet determine that the president is unable to discharge the duties of the office, transferring authority to the vice president.
The planned briefing comes as some Democratic lawmakers have renewed calls for either impeachment proceedings or invocation of the 25th Amendment. While impeachment was pursued twice during Trump’s first term, the Senate did not vote to remove him from office. Efforts to revisit impeachment during his current term have been more limited.
Calls to consider the 25th Amendment have also emerged from outside Democratic leadership. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Republican, has similarly urged members of the administration to consider invoking the provision.
The upcoming caucus meeting is expected to provide members with legal and procedural guidance as discussions continue over potential congressional responses.
