NEW PALTZ- SUNY New Paltz has earned national recognition for its support of military-affiliated students, receiving a Military Friendly School designation for the 2026–2027 academic year.

The university also advanced to Gold status in the rankings, placing it among the top-performing colleges and universities nationwide for services aimed at veterans, active-duty service members, and their families.  The designation is awarded based on a data-driven evaluation of institutions offering strong academic and support programs for military-connected students.

University officials said the recognition reflects ongoing efforts to provide access to benefits, resources, and a supportive campus community.  Stella Turk, vice president for enrollment management, credited the work of the school’s Office of Veteran & Military Services in helping students succeed.

“This recognition highlights our continued commitment to those who have served,” Turk said, adding that the university will continue expanding services to help students reach their educational goals.

SUNY New Paltz Office of Veteran & Military Services Director Donnie Martin said the jump from last year’s Silver status to Gold underscores a campus-wide effort.

“An honor like this reflects collaboration across the institution,” Martin said.  “It shows our shared commitment to supporting veterans, service members and their families.”

In addition to the new designation, the university currently holds Military Spouse Friendly School status for 2025–2026.  Officials said updated rankings for that category will be announced later this year.
