LAKE CARMEL – It was no April Fool’s hoax, but when a garbage truck dumped its load at the busy intersection of Routes 52 and 311 in Lake Carmel Wednesday the incident snarled traffic and resulted in a complete mess.
Kent Police Chief Kevin Owens said when patrols reached the scene, they found the contents of the private hauler’s full-sized truck covering the intersection and stretching south along Route 52 towards the hamlet of Carmel.
Requests for assistance sent members of the Kent Highway Department and employees of the State Department of Transportation to the area clearing the debris and making the road safe for vehicular traffic.
The unidentified trash hauler sent another rig to remove remaining garbage.
Authorities said a malfunction caused the truck to dump its load.
