Rapper Megan Thee Stallion was taken to hospital after falling ill during her performance in Moulin Rouge! The Musical on Broadway in New York on Tuesday night, cutting the show short and raising concern among fans.

In a message shared on social media the following day, the 31-year-old artist said she had tried to continue but was unable to push through. “I thought I was gonna faint on stage… I really tried to push through my performance but I just couldn’t,” she wrote, adding that the experience left her shaken.

Her representatives later confirmed she was transported to a New York hospital after “starting to feel very ill” during the show. Medical professionals diagnosed her with extreme exhaustion, dehydration, vasoconstriction and low metabolic levels. She has since been treated and discharged, and is now recovering.

Despite the health scare, Megan reassured fans that her absence would be brief. She confirmed plans to return to the stage on Thursday to resume her role as Harold Zidler, the flamboyant master of ceremonies in the hit production. “I’ll be right back on that stage Thursday, stronger, clearer, and ready to give you 100%,” she said.

The rapper, born Megan Pete, made her Broadway debut on 24 March in the highly anticipated role, which she is scheduled to perform through 17 May. Ahead of her premiere, she expressed excitement about exploring theatre as a break from her usual concert performances.

Best known for chart-topping hits such as Savage, WAP, and Body, Megan has also earned critical acclaim, including three Grammy Awards in 2021. Fans and fellow performers have since flooded her with well-wishes as she recovers.
