President Donald Trump said Tuesday that Iran’s current leadership has requested a cease-fire with the United States, signaling a potential shift in the ongoing conflict.

In a Truth Social post, Trump stated that Iran’s president had reached out seeking an end to hostilities.

“Iran’s New Regime President, much less Radicalized and far more intelligent than his predecessors, has just asked the United States of America for a CEASEFIRE!,” Trump wrote.

The president added that any consideration of a cease-fire would depend on conditions in a key maritime corridor. “We will consider when Hormuz Strait is open, free, and clear. Until then, we are blasting Iran into oblivion or, as they say, back to the Stone Ages!!!”

The remarks come ahead of a scheduled national address, during which Trump is expected to provide further details about the situation.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt previously announced in a March 31 post on X that the president would deliver “an important update” on the conflict at 9 p.m. Eastern Time on Wednesday.

The Strait of Hormuz, referenced by Trump, is a critical global shipping route through which a significant portion of the world’s energy supply passes. Its status has been a central issue in the ongoing tensions.

No additional details about the reported cease-fire request or diplomatic communications were immediately released. The White House is expected to provide further information during the president’s upcoming address.
