PATTERSON- Two giants from the world of sports joined dozens of area residents in Patterson Saturday for a 3 Up 3 Down fundraiser to promote youth baseball while supporting individuals with developmental disabilities throughout the Hudson Valley.
Mets and Yankees legend Darryl Strawberry and former Yankees catcher John Flaherty talked about the organization’s focus to enhance experiences of playing baseball for all children, regardless of their abilities which is achieved by providing grants to local programs, helping children acquire necessary equipment, maintaining fields and keeping registration fees affordable for families.
County Executive Kevin Byrne addressed the gathering by discussing Putnam’s commitment to its special needs community through the Think DIFFERENTLY initiatives, including the new Early Learning Center in Patterson. “These efforts succeed because of the dedicated volunteers and supporters who step up every day,” said Byrne.
