MONTICELLO – The No Kings movement held a day of action throughout the Hudson Valley on Saturday. While national events were occurring in cities, the local strategy involved a network of protests in over 30 locations from the Catskills to Westchester. One such demonstration was in Monticello, where hundreds of people lined both sides of Broadway. Several cars drove by, honking their horns in support of the protesters.
The organizer, Martin Colavito, of Sullivan Allies Leading Together (S.A.L.T.), was near Milan, Italy, on no King’s Day, but he protested there anyway. He was seen holding a sign that said “No Kings” in English and Italian.
“Trump is just ruining our country. Everything he’s done has been to the effect of destroying middle and lower-class people in this country. It’s a different country than it was when I grew up, and I fear for my grandchildren,” he said.
As the Monticello rally continued, motorists driving by blew their horns, while some shouted expletives and made vulgar hand gestures.
