President Donald Trump will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping on May 14–15, the White House confirmed Wednesday, according to remarks from press secretary Karoline Leavitt.

Leavitt said Xi is expected to make a return visit to the United States at a later date, though no timeline for that trip has been announced.

The scheduled meeting adjusts earlier travel plans and comes as U.S. foreign policy remains focused on the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

The Trump administration has pursued negotiations with Iran in recent weeks, but Iranian officials have rejected U.S. proposals and presented counter-terms.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohamed Ghalibaf issued a public warning regarding potential regional involvement in the conflict, stating in a post shared online that Iran is monitoring developments involving foreign forces.

“Based on some data, Iran’s enemies, with the support of one of the regional countries, are preparing to occupy one of the Iranian islands,” Ghalibaf said. “All enemy movements are under the full surveillance of our armed forces. If they step out of line, all the vital infrastructure of that regional country will, without restriction, become the target of relentless attacks.”

The planned meeting between Trump and Xi comes amid these ongoing geopolitical developments, with both diplomatic efforts and regional tensions continuing simultaneously.
