An investigation has been launched following a suspected arson attack on ambulances belonging to the Jewish emergency service Hatzolah in north London, according to the Metropolitan Police.
Four ambulances were set ablaze at about 01:45 GMT on Monday in Golders Green, an area known for its large Jewish population. Emergency services quickly attended the scene, with both police and firefighters working to contain the damage and secure the area.
Authorities have classified the incident as an “antisemitic hate crime,” raising serious concerns within the local community. Officers remain at the scene carrying out urgent enquiries, including reviewing CCTV footage and circulating images from videos that have surfaced online.
Superintendent Sarah Jackson, who oversees policing in the area, said the attack would likely cause significant distress. “We know this incident will cause a great deal of community concern,” she stated, adding that investigators are currently seeking three suspects believed to be involved.
No arrests have been made so far, and police have urged anyone with information to come forward to assist the investigation.
Hatzolah is a long-standing, non-profit volunteer organisation that provides free emergency medical response and transport to hospitals. It has served the Golders Green community since 1979 and plays a vital role in local healthcare support.
A resident near the scene described being jolted awake by what sounded like an explosion shortly after 01:30 GMT. “We’ve all been woken up by arsonists targeting the ambulances in our community,” the witness said, confirming that multiple vehicles were engulfed in flames.
