SAUGERTIES – The $8.2 million project to replace the Malden Turnpike bridge over the Thruway in the Village of Saugerties has begun.

The new bridge will have an anticipated life of 75 years and feature two 11-foot travel lanes with five-foot shoulders.

The current structure was closed to all traffic on Monday, March 16 and will remain closed until the project is completed in the fall of this year. Motorists seeking to access Malden Turnpike should use Route 32 south to Route 212, to Main Street, Route 9W north to Malden Turnpike.
State Senator Michelle Hinchey said replacement of the bridge “is a critical investment that will give our residents a safer ride and strengthen the long-term resilience of our local infrastructure.”

Ulster County Executive Jen Metzger said these types of projects “strengthen our infrastructure and ensure that Ulster County remains safe, accessible, and prepared for the future.”
