For those who believe the beat goes on and stories never truly end—only opening doors to new beginnings—the announcement of Paranormal Activity 8 will feel perfectly in step with that philosophy. While not all details have been revealed, confirmation of the next installment has quickly turned expectation into anticipation.
Just a week ago, updates on the franchise’s return began circulating, offering only the vaguest glimpse into what might be ahead. According to Bloody Disgusting, director Tuason provided a hint on the direction he plans to take:
“Technology—camera technology—has advanced to a point where it’s become a big part of the film and what I want to do there,” Tuason explained.
Though this insight doesn’t reveal much about the plot, it does offer a clue to the intended format and how it will relate to past films.
Found-Footage in the Roots

One of Paranormal Activity’s defining traits has been its distinctive presentation style. Classified within the found-footage genre, each installment, excluding one, unfolds through recordings captured from home surveillance cameras, personal camcorders, and other devices. The filming technique is inseparable from the storytelling itself.
Based on Tuason’s comments, it appears the reboot will maintain this signature creative angle while elevating it with cutting-edge technology—potentially offering a more immersive experience than ever before.
New Direction, Familiar Shadows?
It remains too early to tell whether this new chapter will connect directly to the franchise’s primary antagonist or carve an entirely new path. What has been confirmed is that James Wan’s interest in Tuason’s vision has been a catalytic factor in the franchise’s revival.
As Tuason recounted,
“This was a spontaneous meeting because I just happened to be in LA at the time. I pitched him [James Wan] something in one minute that I thought of the day before. And that was it.”
Building Momentum
With his first full-length feature, Undertone, now complete, Paranormal Activity 8 presents another opportunity for Tuason to build momentum and prove his storytelling capabilities as his portfolio expands. The potential is strong thanks to the franchise’s built-in fan base and established emotional connection with audiences.
However, rebooting a property of this caliber comes with its own challenges—chief among them, reinventing the experience without straying too far from what fans expect. Tuason remains confident, declaring to Bloody Disgusting,
“I felt like the franchise couldn’t be rebooted in any other way.”
The Countdown Begins
Love it or hate it, there’s more Paranormal Activity on the way. The film is currently slated for release in late spring 2027. In the meantime, curious fans can get an early sense of Tuason’s style—his film Undertone is already playing in theaters.
