POUGHKEEPSIE — A 56-year-old city resident was arrested Thursday morning on a felony drug charge after authorities executed a search warrant at 32 Whinfield St., following an investigation into narcotics sales in the area, police said.

The Dutchess County Drug Task Force, assisted by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Service Unit, the Poughkeepsie Joint SWAT team, New York State Parole, Dutchess County Probation, and local patrol bureaus, conducted the raid as part of an ongoing probe into fentanyl and cocaine distribution in the city.

Dondi Johnson was taken into custody at his home by task force members, who said they recovered evidence of illegal drug sales at the scene.

Authorities said the investigation began after complaints about suspected drug activity in the Whinfield Street area. Undercover agents purchased crack cocaine from Johnson, and subsequent testing confirmed the drugs contained fentanyl, police said.

Johnson, who was recently released on parole after serving a three-year sentence for burglary, was charged with felony criminal sale of a controlled substance. Additional charges are pending, according to Detective Sgt. Adam Harris, task force coordinator.  Johnson was arraigned in the City of Poughkeepsie Court and ordered held at Dutchess County Jail without bail.
