POUGHKEEPSIE – The Dutchess County Legislature recently authorized accepting a grant from the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services to upgrade the Vesta 911 Calling System.  The state is providing $1,639, 396 toward the project, which is estimated to cost $2.75 million.  The legislature also authorized bonding the remaining $1, 086, 360 to complete the project.

The upgraded Vesta 911 Calling System will replace the current system, including equipment that has reached the end of its lifecycle and is no longer under warranty.

In a memo to the deputy county executive, Commissioner of Emergency Response William Beale said: “The improvements will benefit the county’s residents’ safety and well-being by providing faster response times, improved accuracy, better call handling, and enhanced reliability.”
