Bam Adebayo delivered one of the most remarkable scoring performances in basketball history on Tuesday night, pouring in 83 points to lead the Miami Heat to a commanding 150–129 victory over the Washington Wizards.

The historic outing ranks as the second-highest scoring performance in National Basketball Association history. Only Wilt Chamberlain’s legendary 100-point game in 1962 surpasses Adebayo’s effort.

Adebayo came out aggressively from the opening tip, scoring 31 points in the first quarter alone. He continued his relentless pace in the second quarter, reaching 43 points by halftime and climbing to 62 by the end of the third quarter before finishing the night with 83.

He shot 20-for-43 from the field, made 7 of his 22 attempts from three-point range and dominated at the free-throw line. Adebayo finished 36-for-43 on free throws, setting new NBA single-game records for both free throws made and attempted.

The previous record for free-throw attempts was 39, achieved twice by Dwight Howard. Meanwhile, the record for free throws made in a game had been 28, shared by Chamberlain and Adrian Dantley.

With the performance, Adebayo also surpassed one of his basketball idols, Kobe Bryant, whose famous 81-point game in 2006 had long stood as the second-highest scoring performance in league history.

The 83-point explosion also shattered the previous franchise record for the Heat. That mark had been held by LeBron James, who scored 61 points against the Charlotte Hornets on March 3, 2014.

Before Tuesday’s game, the highest individual scoring total in the NBA this season belonged to Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets, who had recorded a 56-point performance.

Adebayo’s extraordinary night electrified fans and instantly entered the NBA record books as one of the most unforgettable scoring displays the league has ever seen.
