President Donald Trump said Sunday he will refuse to sign any additional legislation until Congress passes the SAVE America Act, a proposal focused on voter identification requirements and proof of citizenship for voter registration.
In a message posted on Truth Social, Trump commended election integrity advocate Scott Presler for promoting the legislation and urged lawmakers to move quickly to approve it.
Trump emphasized that he wants the strongest version of the proposal to reach his desk, calling for requirements that voters present identification and proof of citizenship to register. The president also urged lawmakers not to advance what he described as a diluted version of the bill.
“Great Job by hard working Scott Pressler on Fox & Friends talking about using the Filibuster, or Talking Filibuster, in order to pass THE SAVE AMERICA ACT, an 88% issue with ALL VOTERS,” Trump wrote in the statement. “It must be done immediately. It supersedes everything else. MUST GO TO THE FRONT OF THE LINE.”
Trump added that he would not approve other legislation until the measure becomes law.
“I, as President, will not sign other Bills until this is passed, AND NOT THE WATERED DOWN VERSION – GO FOR THE GOLD: MUST SHOW VOTER I.D. & PROOF OF CITIZENSHIP,” the president wrote, also calling for limits on mail-in ballots except in cases involving the military, illness, disability, or travel. The post concluded with the message: “DO NOT FAIL!!! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”
Trump has repeatedly urged Republican lawmakers to prioritize the legislation, describing the issue of election procedures as a defining national debate. Reporting cited by Breitbart News noted the president has continued to press members of Congress to move the measure forward.
Polling cited in the same report suggests broad public support for the proposal. A Harvard-Harris survey conducted Feb. 25–26 among 1,999 registered voters found that 71 percent supported provisions included in the SAVE America Act. Those provisions include requirements for proof of citizenship when registering to vote, voter identification at polling places, removal of noncitizens from voter rolls, and expanded data sharing between states and the Department of Homeland Security.
The poll found support across party lines, with 91 percent of Republicans, 50 percent of Democrats and 69 percent of independents expressing support for the legislation.
Trump has also linked the measure to ongoing political developments, recently telling Senate Majority Leader John Thune of South Dakota and Sen. John Cornyn of Texas that he wants the SAVE America Act passed before he makes an endorsement in the Texas Senate race.
Advocates for the legislation say it is designed to strengthen election verification procedures nationwide. Opponents have argued that some provisions could affect voting access, while supporters say the bill would standardize identity verification and voter roll maintenance across states.
The debate over the proposal continues as lawmakers consider whether to bring the measure forward for a vote in Congress.
