Chinese state-run media outlets promoted U.S.-based protests opposing American and Israeli military strikes on Iran, highlighting demonstrations organized by activist groups previously reported to have financial or leadership ties to a network linked to Marxist businessman Neville Roy Singham.
According to reporting by Just the News, Chinese government media amplified images, quotes, and video from protests organized by groups including the Act Now to Stop War and End Racism Coalition (ANSWER), the People’s Forum, Code Pink, and the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL).
The demonstrations began shortly after President Donald Trump announced early Saturday that U.S. forces had launched major operations against Iranian leadership and military infrastructure. In a Truth Social post announcing the operation, available here, Trump said the objective was “to defend the American people by eliminating imminent threats from the Iranian regime.”
Within minutes of the announcement, ANSWER issued a call for an “EMERGENCY NATIONWIDE DAY OF ACTION,” as seen here. PSL echoed the message in a separate post here, and the People’s Forum shared promotional graphics here. Code Pink urged followers to contact Congress in opposition to the strikes here.
Chinese state media outlets including Xinhua News Agency, China Daily, CGTN, the Global Times, People’s Daily, and China.org published articles emphasizing the protests and quoting leaders from the People’s Forum.
Xinhua reported that “Hundreds of New Yorkers rallied in Times Square” and prominently quoted Layan Fuleihan, identified as education director at the People’s Forum. In coverage published here, the outlet quoted Fuleihan as saying: “We cannot forget that it is the United States that has over 5,000 nuclear warheads ready to be launched… Iran poses no threat to the United States.”
The Justice Department has previously described Xinhua as directly subordinate to China’s State Council and Communist Party propaganda departments, as reflected in documentation available here.
Additional Chinese outlets amplified similar messaging. CGTN published protest coverage here, while China Daily reposted Xinhua’s reporting and promoted protest imagery on social media here and here. The Global Times shared the article here, and China.org republished it here.
The Bernama News Agency in Malaysia also republished the Xinhua story here.
Fuleihan’s affiliation with the People’s Forum is described on the group’s website here. Her X account appears here, and she is listed as a contributor to the People’s Dispatch here. The People’s Forum previously acknowledged meeting Singham in a 2021 post here, describing him as a “Marxist comrade.”
The New York Times has reported on Singham’s ties to China and operations in Shanghai, as archived here. Archived material from Maku Group, a Shanghai-based media entity linked to Singham, is available here. Reporting by New Lines Magazine discussed Singham’s work with Huawei here, and federal communications concerns regarding Huawei are noted here.
Then-Senator Marco Rubio urged investigation into alleged CCP-linked funding streams in correspondence described here. Singham denied working under direction of any government, stating to the New York Times, “I categorically deny and repudiate any suggestion that I am a member of, work for, take orders from, or follow instructions of any political party or government,” as archived here.
House Oversight voted in January to subpoena Singham, according to coverage here, with documentation of the hearing available here. The House Ways and Means Committee also requested documents from related groups, as reported here.
The Chinese Embassy in Washington did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The People’s Forum, ANSWER, Code Pink, and PSL also did not respond to inquiries.
The amplification of U.S.-based protests by Beijing-run outlets highlights China’s active media engagement as Washington and Jerusalem pursue continued military operations against Iran.
