Russia launched one of its largest coordinated overnight attacks in recent months, firing hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles at Ukraine’s energy facilities, railway infrastructure and residential areas, injuring at least 26 people across multiple regions, Ukrainian officials said Thursday.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russia deployed 420 drones and 39 missiles, including 11 ballistic missiles, in a widespread assault aimed at energy systems and other critical infrastructure.

“Last night, Russia once again waged war on critical infrastructure and ordinary residential buildings,” Zelenskyy said on Telegram. “The cold has not yet fully receded, and air defense missiles are needed every single day, while Russia continues its attempts to destroy our energy system.”

According to Ukraine’s air force, air defense units intercepted 374 drones and 32 missiles. However, five ballistic missiles and 46 drones reached 32 separate locations, causing structural damage and triggering fires.

Officials reported injuries in eight regions, including children among the wounded. In the Kharkiv region, Governor Oleh Syniehubov said 14 people were injured, including a seven-year-old child. The regional capital was struck by two missiles and 17 drones during the attack.

In Zaporizhzhia, Governor Ivan Fedorov said at least 10 people were injured after Russian drones damaged 19 apartment buildings overnight. Photographs released by regional authorities showed shattered storefronts, residential buildings punctured by explosions and private homes destroyed.

Two additional injuries were reported in Kryvyi Rih, where 10 residential houses, a kindergarten and administrative buildings sustained damage.

The Ukrainian government said gas infrastructure in the Poltava region was targeted, along with electricity substations in Kyiv and Dnipro regions. Railway infrastructure in frontline areas of Donetsk, Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia was also struck, according to a deputy prime minister.

In the capital, Kyiv authorities reported that debris from intercepted drones and missiles damaged buildings in three districts.

The strikes are part of an ongoing campaign focused on Ukraine’s energy sector. Over recent months, repeated attacks on power plants and substations have caused blackouts across multiple regions, particularly during colder periods.

Ukrainian officials continue to call for additional air defense support as Russia maintains pressure on infrastructure and civilian areas through sustained aerial assaults.
