Katherine Hartley Short, the adopted daughter of actor Martin Short, has died at age 42, according to reports confirmed Tuesday.

A representative for the family confirmed the death in a statement to Page Six, saying, “It is with profound grief that we confirm the passing of Katherine Hartley Short.”

“The Short family is devastated by this loss, and asks for privacy at this time. Katherine was beloved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world,” the statement said.

Katherine Short was found deceased at her home in Los Angeles from what authorities described as a self-inflicted gunshot wound. According to TMZ, law enforcement responded to her Hollywood Hills residence shortly after 6 p.m. Monday.

TMZ reported: “Martin Short’s daughter, Katherine, has taken her own life … TMZ has learned. The 42-year-old died from a self inflicted gunshot wound … law enforcement sources tell TMZ.”

Katherine was adopted by Martin Short and his wife of 30 years, Nancy Dolman, who died in 2010. She worked professionally as a social worker in Los Angeles.

News of her death circulated widely on social media, including a post from Page Six on X, which stated, “Martin Short’s daughter, Katherine, dead by apparent suicide at 42.”

Her passing follows other recent losses within the entertainment community, including the death of Tommy Lee Jones’ daughter, who died of a drug overdose on New Year’s Day.
