The Miami Dolphins released star wide receiver Tyreek Hill on Monday, ending the All-Pro’s four-year tenure in Miami as part of a dramatic roster overhaul led by new management.
Hill, who turns 32 on March 1, is recovering from a season-ending knee injury suffered Sept. 29 against the New York Jets. The injury required surgery to repair significant damage to his left knee, including a torn anterior cruciate ligament. He was placed on injured reserve Oct. 1 after being carted off the field in Week 4.
Miami acquired Hill in a blockbuster trade with the Kansas City Chiefs ahead of the 2022 season and signed him to a four-year, $120 million extension that made him the highest-paid receiver at the time. His deal, which runs through 2026, would have counted roughly $51 million against the salary cap.
“These past few years have been some of the most meaningful of my life and career,” Hill wrote on Instagram, adding, “The Cheetah don’t slow down. Ever… The Cheetah will be back… Born Again.”
Hill’s time in Miami featured elite production but also off-field turbulence, including a police altercation outside Hard Rock Stadium before the 2024 opener and publicly hinting he wanted to play elsewhere.
The Dolphins also cut offensive lineman James Daniels and receiver Nick Westbrook- Ikhine and plan to release two-time Pro Bowl pass rusher Bradley Chubb, who missed all of 2024 after a severe knee injury.
New general manager Jon Eric Sullivan and head coach Jeff Hafley signaled an aggressive reset. Questions remain about quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, whose future in Miami is uncertain despite a massive contract extension signed in 2024.
