A late-night law enforcement operation in Tucson connected to the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie ended without arrests, as federal and local authorities await forensic results and continue their investigation.

According to Fox News, a high-level source said that after Friday night’s activity, the FBI is still waiting for laboratory findings from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos recently defended his department’s decision to use a private laboratory in Florida for evidence analysis. Earlier this week, he told Fox News that materials were sent to the Florida facility early in the investigation and that the FBI agreed it was best to continue using that contracted lab rather than transfer evidence to the bureau’s crime lab in Quantico, Virginia.

On Saturday morning, Nanos told Fox News that no arrests had been made and no individuals were in custody in connection with the disappearance of Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of NBC “Today” host Savannah Guthrie.

Sources told Fox News Digital that a federal search warrant was executed Friday night at a residence roughly two miles from Guthrie’s home. At least three individuals were detained during the operation. The sheriff’s department later confirmed the warrant was based on a law enforcement “lead.”

In a post on X, sheriff’s officials wrote: “Law enforcement activity is underway at a residence near E Orange Grove Rd & N First Ave related to the Guthrie case. Because this is a joint investigation, at the request of the FBI — no additional information is currently available.”

During the same timeframe, a man was photographed in handcuffs at a Culver’s parking lot nearby. Sources told Fox News Digital that he was detained in connection with the search warrant and was processed at the scene. No charges were announced. Law enforcement also searched a gray Range Rover in the lot, which was later towed.

Authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or persons of interest.

Appearing on Newsmax’s “Saturday Report,” National Police Association spokesperson Betsy Brantner Smith described the situation as unresolved.

“So we’ve had a search warrant served on that house. They walked, we were told, three people out,” Smith said. “And so that’s progress because they did serve a search warrant.”

She added, “We’re making progress, Rita, but again, we’re sort of back to square one. We can speculate all we want, this is what Randy and I have been doing for days, but we can’t create the narrative ourselves.”

Smith emphasized the need for clearer public communication. “That’s why some sort of press conference needs to happen,” she said. “I live here, I have a lot of older friends, and they’re really horrified by this because all they can see is that masked guy coming to their front doorstep.”

Randy Sutton, founder of The Wounded Blue and a former law enforcement officer, described the overnight developments as chaotic.

“Last night was mass confusion,” Sutton said. “We really hoped that this was going to be the big break. We saw all this incredible activity at the residence, people taken out and detained, vehicle stop.”

He said speculation intensified as information remained limited. “Literally we heard the most bizarre things taking place, including people being shot, people committing suicide,” Sutton said, attributing the situation to “a lack of communication from the sheriff to the people.”

Sutton acknowledged the importance of investigative discretion but called for balance. “You have to temper that with good communications to the media and the people,” he said. “Right now, literally, we have not one idea of where they are in progress with this investigation.”

Despite the visible law enforcement presence and detentions, officials later confirmed that no one remains in custody, and the investigation continues pending further forensic analysis.
