During his address, Trump referenced the base’s recent name change and restoration. The installation had been renamed Fort Liberty before the Trump administration reinstated the original name last year. In comments to troops, Trump joked that they should “vote for us” because Democrats would rename the base again.

The visit took place as part of a broader appearance with North Carolina lawmakers and Republican figures, including GOP Senate candidate Michael Whatley, who previously served as chair of the North Carolina Republican Party.

First lady Melania Trump also addressed the troops, offering a Valentine’s Day message during the event. She wished service members a happy Valentine’s Day and said, “[t]he harmony of love of country and love of family is what makes us uniquely American.”

The event featured the president and first lady standing with Republican members of Congress from North Carolina as they spoke to military personnel gathered at the installation.

Fort Bragg, one of the largest military bases in the United States, serves as a major hub for Army airborne and special operations forces. The president’s visit comes as lawmakers and administration officials continue outreach efforts to military communities across the country.
