ORANGETOWN – Former Rockland County Legislator Denis Troy has died due to complications from cancer.

Troy was also a 20-year member of the Town of Orangetown Board, and most recently served as Deputy Town Supervisor. He was 78.

Troy was active in several organizations, including Camp Venture, AOH Division 3, the Pearl River Little League, American Legion Post 329 and Piermont PAL.

This past December, the Town Board gathered to dedicate and rename the recreational facility on Orangeburg Road as the “Denis Troy Athletic Complex.” Town of Orangetown Supervisor Teresa Kenny called it “a testament to his unwavering belief in the benefits of youth sports and creating spaces where children and families can come together.”

“Denis was a proud Bronx native who found his forever home in Orangetown,” Kenny said. “He adored his wife Bea and was so proud of his children and grandchildren. For me, he was much more than a colleague — he was a true friend. Our community lost a good man. He will be missed by so many.”

“I’m heartbroken by the passing Denis Troy, a dedicated public servant who cared deeply about the Town of Orangetown and the Pearl River community,” added Congressman Mike Lawler (R-NY-17). “He was larger than life, always supportive and encouraging, and a true friend. I will miss him greatly.”
