Documents from the Epstein Files released by the US Department of Justice show that billionaire Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates exchanged emails with Jeffrey Epstein in 2017 that referenced a “pandemic simulation,” according to the records.

The correspondence discusses preparedness exercises and hypothetical scenarios, shedding further light on Gates’ past interactions with Epstein prior to the outbreak of Covid-19. The documents do not specify which simulation was being discussed, but note that the Covid-19 pandemic began in late 2019, indicating that the communications predated the global health crisis.

The disclosures have renewed public attention on pandemic preparedness initiatives involving Gates. In October 2019, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation co-sponsored Event 201, a global pandemic simulation organized with the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security and the World Economic Forum. The exercise was designed to test international readiness for a fictional virus outbreak. The foundation has previously stated that Event 201 was a training exercise and not a prediction or plan for an actual pandemic.

The Gates Foundation has long supported global health initiatives, including funding research related to vaccines and drug development in partnership with government agencies.

The Epstein Files also include a series of allegations made by Epstein against Gates, including claims related to personal conduct. Epstein, who was convicted of sex offenses and died in a US prison in 2019, made several unverified assertions in emails and private memos, including claims shared with third parties and references to requests for medical treatment. The document release also contains photographs of Epstein with Gates.

A spokesperson for Gates strongly denied the allegations, describing them as false and defamatory. The spokesperson said the documents reflect Epstein’s frustration over his lack of an ongoing relationship with Gates and his attempts to damage the billionaire’s reputation.

Despite Epstein’s death, the release of millions of pages of records under the Trump administration has continued to draw scrutiny toward individuals previously associated with him, including Gates, who has not personally commented on the latest disclosures.
