President Trump accused major media outlets of knowingly publishing misleading polls to influence elections, arguing the practice amounts to fraud against voters.

President Donald Trump on Monday renewed his criticism of what he called “fake and fraudulent polling,” saying the practice should be treated as a criminal offense and accusing legacy media organizations of deliberately misleading voters to shape election outcomes.
In a lengthy post on Truth Social, Trump argued that major news organizations knowingly promoted inaccurate polls during the 2024 election cycle to suppress voter enthusiasm and manipulate public perception. He singled out polling disseminated by outlets including The New York Times, ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, and MSNBC, asserting the results were “knowingly wrong” and bore “nothing even close to the final results.”
“Fake and Fraudulent Polling should be, virtually, a criminal offense,” Trump wrote, adding that the polls were intended to influence the election rather than measure public opinion.
Trump contrasted those surveys with the outcome of the election, which he described as decisive. “I won in a Landslide, including winning the Popular Vote, all 7 of the 7 Swing States, the Electoral College was a rout, and 2,750 Counties to 525,” he wrote. “You can’t do much better than that.”
He also criticized polling conducted at times by Fox News and The Wall Street Journal, while praising independent pollsters he said more accurately reflected voter sentiment but received little attention from mainstream media. “There are great Pollsters that called the Election right, but the Media does not want to use them in any way, shape, or form,” Trump wrote, calling the situation a “Polling SCAM” and condemning what he described as the deterioration of American journalism.
The remarks came amid Trump’s ongoing legal dispute with The New York Times. Last week, Trump said he plans to add the Times/Siena poll to his defamation lawsuit against the newspaper, accusing it of publishing results skewed heavily toward Democrats.
The most recent Times/Siena poll reported Trump with a 40% approval rating and 56% disapproval one year into his return to office and found that nearly half of respondents believed the country was worse off under his leadership. Trump rejected those findings outright.
“The Times Siena Poll, which is always tremendously negative to me, especially just before the Election of 2024, where I won in a Landslide, will be added to my lawsuit,” Trump wrote in a separate post, saying his legal team has demanded records detailing how the survey was conducted and calculated.
Trump initially filed suit against The New York Times and several reporters last year, alleging defamation related to coverage of his 2024 campaign. Although a federal judge dismissed the original filing, Trump refiled the case in October, and the lawsuit remains active.
Trump’s comments echoed longstanding criticism from conservatives who argue that establishment polling underrepresents Republican voters, particularly in working-class and rural communities, while overstating Democratic turnout. High-profile polling errors in recent election cycles have further fueled skepticism about the reliability of mainstream surveys.
Trump said he intends to continue pressing media organizations he believes have abused their influence. “They have become deranged and sick,” he wrote. “They suffer from TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME. They have to pay a price for FAKE AND FRAUDULENT NEWS — and hopefully, they will.”
