MARLBORO – A 25-year-old Montgomery man was killed in a two-vehicle accident on Friday on State Route 9W in the Town of Marlboro.
The State Police has identified the victim as Isaiah D. Towne. A preliminary investigation determined that Towne was driving a 2010 Honda northbound at about 1 p.m. when he attempted to pass an uninvolved vehicle by utilizing the eastern shoulder of the northbound lane. While traveling on the shoulder, the Honda struck a small snowbank and continued partially off the roadway.
As Towne attempted to reenter the northbound lane of travel, the vehicle overcorrected and crossed into the southbound lane, where it collided head-on with a 2023 Kia at Mahoney Road. Towne was extricated from the vehicle but succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver and sole occupant of the Kia, Angela A. Freeborn, 74, of Marlboro, was transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Medical Center with serious injuries and is listed in stable condition.
The investigation into the accident remains ongoing.
