What happens when slapstick comedy collides with monster mayhem? Apparently, the answer is Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell.

The beloved comedy duo—forever linked in the public imagination by their late 1990’s hit Good Burger—are officially teaming up once again. This time, however, they are trading fast-food satire for classic creature chaos in an upcoming feature that blends slapstick humor with monster mythology.

Slapstick Stuck

Slapstick comedy has long been a staple of entertainment, delivering exaggerated mishaps, physical humor, and gut-busting scenarios that invite audiences to laugh at life’s inevitable absurdities. At its core, the genre encourages viewers not to take themselves too seriously—to laugh through embarrassment, bad luck, and public misfortune. Few comedic traditions embody that spirit more completely.

Masters of Craft

Among the genre’s most influential pioneers were Abbott and Costello, whose work set the standard for comedic timing and character-driven chaos. According to the Abbott and Costello Fan Club, the duo’s impact was unmatched: over a 21-year partnership, they dominated burlesque, radio, Broadway, film, and television. Their legendary “Who’s on First?” routine is still widely regarded as the greatest comedy sketch of all time, and they ranked among the Top Ten box office stars eight times between 1941 and 1951. Given that legacy, it is little surprising that Thompson and Mitchell would look to them for inspiration.

That inspiration goes beyond a simple comedic pairing. As reported by Blex Media, the new project draws directly from a specific subset of Abbott and Costello’s filmography—particularly their monster-themed outings. The upcoming film, “Kenan & Kel Meet Frankenstein,” is inspired by the classic “Abbott and Costello Meet the Monsters” series, where absentmindedness and dimwitted charm routinely spiral into full-blown disaster.

Original and The Modern

As IMDb notes in its description of “Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein,” the plot hinges on chaos born of misunderstanding:

“The Wolf Man tries to warn a dimwitted porter that Dracula wants his brain for Frankenstein monster’s body.”

It is an absurd premise built on escalating confusion—one that seems tailor-made for Thompson and Mitchell’s brand of comedic chemistry.

The new film introduces its own twist on the formula. In this iteration, Frankenstein is accidentally awakened, unleashing mayhem that the duo’s characters are ill-equipped to handle. Production is now moving forward, and both actors have expressed strong confidence in the project. Thompson described the film as

“The perfect mix of nostalgia, comedy, and something completely unexpected.” At the same time, Mitchell emphasized that it allows them to revisit the dynamic audiences love while pushing into fresh creative territory.

Kenan and Kel Back Again

Longtime fans will recall that the pair reunited recently for “Good Burger 2” in 2023—a sequel that served as both a nostalgic callback and a reminder of their enduring comedic appeal. That return not only reignited audience enthusiasm but seemingly reminded Thompson and Mitchell of the creative spark that made their partnership resonate in the first place.

Whether this monster-fueled collaboration marks the beginning of a longer-term creative partnership remains to be seen. In Hollywood, futures are rarely predictable. Still, if history is any indication, when Kenan and Kel reunite, chaos—and comedy—are never far behind.
