President Donald Trump accused former special counsel Jack Smith of committing perjury and demanded criminal prosecution following Smith’s testimony before Congress.

President Donald Trump on Thursday called for the prosecution of former special counsel Jack Smith, accusing him of targeting conservatives with politically motivated investigations and committing what Trump described as “large scale perjury” during congressional testimony earlier in the day.

“Based on his testimony today, there is no question that Deranged Jack Smith should be prosecuted for his actions. He destroyed the lives of many innocent people, which has been his history as a prosecutor,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social following Smith’s appearance before Congress. “At a minimum, he committed large scale perjury!”

Trump’s statement came after Smith testified publicly before lawmakers, where he defended his past investigations into Trump and rejected claims that they were politically driven. Trump’s post repeated his assertion that Smith’s conduct rose to the level of criminal wrongdoing and warranted prosecution.

In the same message, Trump framed Smith’s actions as part of what he has repeatedly characterized as the weaponization of government against political opponents. He said Smith’s record as a prosecutor included what Trump described as a pattern of harming “many innocent people.”

Earlier in the week, Trump also issued a separate, sharply worded rebuke of Smith while criticizing former President Joe Biden and what he called leftist prosecutors. “Deranged Jack ‘Sick’ Smith,” Trump said, is “a sick son of a bitch.” He added, “He’s a sick guy.”

Smith has not publicly responded to Trump’s accusations of perjury or calls for prosecution.
