President Donald Trump announced Thursday that the United States will bid to host the World Expo in 2035, backing Miami, Florida, as the proposed host city and signaling a renewed push to bring another major international event to the country.

“Today, I am announcing the United States’ intention to bid for the World Expo 2035. The Great State of Florida has expressed strong interest in hosting the Expo in Miami, which I fully support,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social. “Miami Expo 2035 can be the next big milestone in our new Golden Age of America.”

Trump said he is appointing Secretary of State Marco Rubio, a Miami native, to lead the effort to coordinate and advance the bid. “I am appointing Miami native Secretary of State Marco Rubio to Chair the efforts of coordinating and advancing this exciting opportunity to convene the World,” Trump wrote. “We will create thousands of jobs, and add Billions of Dollars in GROWTH, to our Economy.”

In the post, Trump pointed to his previous involvement in securing major international events for the United States. “In my First Term as President, I fought hard to bring the 2026 FIFA World Cup and 2028 LA Summer Olympics to the U.S.A. I now have the Honor of hosting as the 47th President, plus America250, G20 Doral, and the G7,” he wrote. “I look forward to winning and participating in the Miami Expo 2035!”

Trump has previously spoken about his admiration for the large-scale world fairs of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, which served as showcases for cities and national achievements. His plans surrounding the upcoming America 250 commemoration have drawn on elements of those historic exhibitions.

The World Expo is a modern successor to those earlier fairs, typically highlighting national culture, technology, and innovation through country-led pavilions. Unlike the classical expositions of the past, the event generally emphasizes contemporary design and long-term development rather than temporary monumental architecture.

No formal timeline for the bid process was announced, but Trump’s statement marks the administration’s first public step toward seeking the 2035 World Expo on behalf of Miami.
