Ryan submits petition to ICE with over 10,000 signatures opposing Chester immigrant center

WASHINGTON – In just one week, Congressman Pat Ryan (D, NY-18) has amassed a with over 10,000 signatures of Hudson Valley residents who are opposed to a proposed ICE detention facility in the Village of Chester.

His effort has not stopped there as he is encouraging people who have not signed the to do so. “We will not stand by and let ICE move into Chester,” he said Wednesday.

He said the responses he has received are the “strongest and most unified” he has seen during his time in office. “And it’s for good reason – we’re seeking law-abiding members of our community snatched off the streets with no due process, and whether that’s at facilities in New York or across the country, we will not accept it.”

Ryan said the “power to keep ICE from moving in, terrorizing our neighbors, and making us all less safe is in our hands. So the Hudson Valley will keep showing ICE, DHS, and Kristi Noem exactly what we’re made of as we stand together on the side of justice, accountability, and humanity.”
