After crashing and burning on his stunt to impeach President Donald Trump, Rep. Shri Thanedar is back with another radical headline grab — this time announcing a bill to abolish ICE.

Let’s be clear: this isn’t leadership. It’s desperation.

Thanedar’s impeachment push went nowhere because it was baseless, partisan, and rejected by reality. The American people weren’t buying it. Congress wasn’t buying it. And now, instead of recalibrating, he’s doubling down on ideology by targeting Immigration and Customs Enforcement — the agency responsible for enforcing immigration law and protecting our communities.

Abolish ICE? Absolutely not.

ICE agents are the ones tracking down violent offenders, human traffickers, gang members, and repeat criminals who should never have been here in the first place. They’re enforcing the law Congress passed — not some imaginary statute cooked up on cable news. Getting rid of ICE doesn’t make America safer. It does the opposite.

This is the same playbook we’ve seen before: fail at one political stunt, pivot to another extreme proposal, hope the base applauds. But regular Americans — including legal immigrants who followed the rules — know better. Border security isn’t “hate.” Law enforcement isn’t “oppression.” And enforcing immigration law isn’t optional.

If anyone should be abolished from the conversation, it’s reckless ideas that put ideology over public safety.

Thanedar had his moment. He failed. Now he wants to dismantle an agency that protects Americans because it polls well with activists. That’s not courage. That’s chaos.

America doesn’t need fewer laws enforced. It needs fewer politicians trying to dismantle the country piece by piece after losing their last argument.
