Switzerland’s competition commission announced on Thursday that it has launched a preliminary review into Microsoft’s licensing fees in the country after receiving a wave of complaints from both private and public organizations.

According to the commission, numerous businesses, government bodies, and publicly owned companies reported steep and unexplained price increases across Microsoft’s software offerings, sparking concern that the price adjustments could reflect behavior that restricts fair market competition.

The watchdog explained that it is still in the early stages of examining the claims but noted that the volume and nature of the complaints raise questions about whether the company may have violated national competition rules. The commission emphasized that if early findings validate suspicions of anti-competitive practices, it could escalate the matter into a full-scale investigation to determine whether Microsoft’s pricing strategies limit customer choice or unfairly distort the software market in Switzerland.

In a response, Microsoft stated that it is prepared to fully cooperate with Swiss authorities throughout the review. The company reiterated that it adheres to the nation’s competition laws and intends to engage constructively with regulators as they analyze the concerns put forth by affected organizations.
