PAWLING – Cell phone video obtained by Mid-Hudson News shows the violent attack of a group of elderly people who were holding a peaceful roadside protest in Pawling of the shooting of Renee Good by ICE agents in Minnesota. Fifty-two-year-old Annette Strehle of Circle Drive in Pawling can be seen in the video attacking the protesters, knocking them to the ground, and throwing their phones into a nearby strip of woods.
According to one of the victims, Strehle pulled over near the protest and began yelling at them, without any provocation. The yelling turned violent when Strehle parked her car and approached the protesters, still yelling, before she became violent.
One victim said Strehle exited her vehicle, grabbed a protester’s sign, and tore it up. Another elderly woman said Strehle then approached her, punched her in the chest, knocking her down, then grabbed the woman’s phone and threw it, before allegedly attacking another 80-year-old protester, including destroying her glasses and throwing her phone. The violence was captured by a passing motorist.
Strehle sped away before police arrived, but witnesses were able to provide her license plate number to the cops. Law enforcement tracked Strehle down, arrested her, and charged her with two counts of criminal mischief.
“After seeing the footage of the event that unfolded, I believe it’s now more important than ever to focus on civil discourse and open dialogue,” Assemblyman Anil Beephan told Mid-Hudson News. “I hope those impacted by this situation are okay, and I ask the community to allow law enforcement and the courts the opportunity to do their job.”
Strehle is due in Pawling Justice Court on February 10, 2026.
