President Donald Trump made an obscene gesture toward a heckler Tuesday while touring a Ford Motor Co. truck factory in Michigan, an incident captured on video and widely circulated online.
In footage shared by TMZ, Trump can be seen pointing toward someone off camera, appearing to mouth words, and then raising his middle finger. A person can be heard shouting “pedophile protector” during the exchange. The incident occurred at Ford’s plant in Dearborn, ahead of a speech Trump later delivered in Detroit focused on the U.S. economy.
The White House defended the president’s actions. Communications Director Steven Cheung said in a statement Tuesday night that “a lunatic was wildly screaming expletives in a complete fit of rage, and the President gave an appropriate and unambiguous response.”
Ford also addressed the video but distanced itself from the confrontation. Company spokesperson David Tovar said Ford does not condone inappropriate language or behavior within its facilities. “One of our core values is respect,” Tovar said, adding that the company has internal processes to handle such situations but does not comment on specific personnel matters.
The heckler’s accusation appeared to reference renewed attention surrounding documents released under the Epstein Files Transparency Act. Trump’s name has appeared in some of the materials made public by the Justice Department, including an email released last month stating that flight logs show Trump flew on Jeffrey Epstein’s plane at least eight times during the 1990s, including once with a 20-year-old woman who was not identified.
Authorities have not accused Trump of any wrongdoing related to Epstein. Trump and the White House have repeatedly denied any improper conduct.
Following publication of the email, the Justice Department cautioned that some documents released under the transparency law “contain untrue and sensationalist claims,” which it described as “unfounded and false.”
The incident adds to a string of moments during Trump’s public appearances that have drawn attention for their confrontational tone, particularly as scrutiny around the Epstein records continues.
