ALBANY – Governor Kathy Hochul has signed into law legislation sponsored by Assemblyman Chris Eachus (D, New Windsor) and Senator James Skoufis (D, Cornwall) that would add the Moodna Creek to the definition of inland waterways for waterfront revitalization.

Eachus said reunited communities along the creek could make it possible to seek funding to prevent future flooding.

“We are trying to get the municipalities back together again as a group – the Moodna Creek Watershed Association – to address the problems we are having with the Moodna Creek. And it’s not necessarily just the problems, but that that creek will be constantly monitored and also that the possible issues that could arise with it could be addressed before something tragic happens,” he said.

A number of years ago, heavy rains caused flooding that ravaged the creek and causes major damage to roads, bridges and buildings along its path.
