The organizing committee of the 17th edition of the Qatar International Falconry and Hunting Festival (Marmi 2026) will resume the “Al-Talaa” and “Haddad Al-Tahadi” championships today, Monday (January 5), after a forced suspension yesterday, Sunday, due to weather conditions.
The festival is held under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, and is supported by the Social and Sports Activities Support Fund “Daam”, in the Marmi Sabkha in Sealine, and will continue until the twenty-fourth of this month.
The organizing committee of Al Marjan started yesterday morning the “Al Talaa” championship for groups from eleven to fifteen under clear visibility and moderate wind speed, so the qualifiers for the eleventh group were held and resulted in the qualification of the falconer: Ali Hussein Ali Yousef Al Saai, and with the wind speed increasing, the committee decided to postpone the qualifiers for groups from 12-15, and their time will be announced later.
The organizing committee of the Marmi Festival 2026 also decided to postpone the competitions of the fourth group in the Haddad Challenge Championship due to weather conditions as well, so that they will be held later during the morning period in parallel with the championship that is held in the evening period daily.
Mr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Ali, Chairman of the Committees and official spokesperson for the Marmi Festival, said that the decision to postpone came after careful monitoring of the weather conditions in the competition field. He confirmed that the festival management decided to temporarily suspend the Al Talaa Championship on Sunday due to the increased wind speed after the end of the eleventh group’s competitions, which were held in ideal conditions and clear visibility. He pointed out that the committee also decided to postpone the fourth group’s competitions in the “Hadd Al Tahaddi” Championship for the same reason, as the strong winds are not suitable for the nature of falconry championships.
The official spokesperson for the Marmi Festival confirmed that the safety of the participants is our top priority, along with our commitment to providing a full and equal opportunity for all competitors, ensuring that the competitions take place in fair and favorable conditions for everyone, whether in the Al-Tala’a Championship or in the Haddad Al-Tahadi Championship.
The official spokesperson indicated that the organizing committee is keen to ensure that the tournaments are held according to the highest standards of organization and safety, reflecting the status of the Marmi Festival as one of the most prominent heritage festivals specializing in falconry and hunting in the region.
Al-Ali confirmed that the festival’s championships will resume today, Monday, with the morning qualifying rounds for the Al-Talaa Championship for groups sixteen to twenty taking place, while the “Hadd Al-Tahadi” Championship competitions for the fourth group will resume in the evening, according to the festival’s schedule.
He stressed that the committee is continuously monitoring weather developments and making decisions that serve the interests of the participants and maintain the competitive and professional level of the championships, praising the competitors’ understanding and cooperation with the decisions of the organizing committee.
