One suspect was taken into custody early Monday after police were called to an incident at Vice President JD Vance’s Cincinnati home, prompting a response from local authorities and the U.S. Secret Service.
According to early reports, windows were smashed during what was initially described as a possible break-in at the residence. Additional reporting indicated the Secret Service requested police assistance shortly after midnight.
A Cincinnati police dispatcher said officers were called at approximately 12:15 a.m. after agents observed an individual “running eastbound” near the property, according to local coverage. The suspect was later arrested, though authorities have released few additional details.
Police did not disclose who, if anyone, was inside the home at the time of the incident. Officials noted that streets surrounding the residence had been closed for several days before and after New Year’s Day, a measure typically implemented when the vice president or his family are present.
Those closures were lifted Sunday afternoon, according to city officials. Reports indicated that Vance had departed the residence earlier that day, and the Vance family was not believed to be home when the incident occurred.
Vice President Vance and his wife, Usha Vance, also maintain homes in Washington, D.C.’s Capitol Hill neighborhood and in Alexandria, Virginia. Since his inauguration in January 2025, the family has primarily resided at the official vice presidential residence at Number One Observatory Circle.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not released information regarding the suspect’s identity or potential motive.
